SWAD is a passive stationary electro-optical system protecting high value infrastructure and strategic areas by providing warning upon detection of fire shot from small rifles, carbines, sub-machine guns as well as various other small arms and by providing direction towards the source of fire. Upon detection, SWAD analyzes the small arms fire patterns, including their duration and intensity, and classifies the type of weapon being used. By employing sophisticated imaging and processing techniques, SWAD precisely locates the flash sources to assist in identifying shooter location for fast and efficiently threat-source elimination. SWAD detects multiple small arms/sniper fire sources simultaneously, day and night, at long ranges, and with highprecision detection capabilities. SWAD consists of a set of wide field of view (FOV) and high frame rate infra-red staring sensors, a processor, a commander control unit with a real-time IR imaging display to assist in finding the shooter location in a background of urban, rural or other areas, and interfaces with 3rd party's sniper end station comprised of an electrical Pan and Tilt for cueing a gun and/or a telescope towards the shooter. SWAD transfers verified targets data to friendly force snipers in real time, and thereby closes the sensor-to-shooter loop quickly and efficiently. The electro-optic system also enables a post-combat debriefing capability, particularly in a media-intensive environment where the validity of a target could be called into question. SWAD has undergone operational testing against live fire of all kinds of gun shots and is currently operational.
